Bubble Wrap® Packaging
The Sealed Air story began in 1960 when inventors Alfred Fielding and Marc
Chavannes created AirCap® cellular cushioning. Initially, the duo considered
marketing the new material as textured wallpaper. They quickly realized that
they had an even bigger opportunity. AirCap® cushioning material, was
formally introduced as a far superior alternative to the traditional material
(wadded paper and bogus or shredded newspaper) used for cushioning, interleaving
and surface protection applications. Through a proprietary Barrier Bubble®
technology, the air cellular materials were subsequently manufactured with
an air retention coating to prevent air loss providing consistent protection.
Sealed Air's Barrier Bubble® technology became the basis for several air
cellular products, including PolyCap® cushioning, Bubblebags® pouches
and product laminations.
All Bubble Wrap® brand products have been reengineered to be stronger
and more resistant to air loss over time and under greater pressure. As a
result, they provide superior protection to a wide range of applications from
fragile items such as glass, china and porcelain to heavy-duty items such
as small motors, computers and calibrated instrumentation
