It is possible in some guestbooks for visitors to express their thoughts about the site or its subject. Generally, they do not require the poster to create a user account, as it is an informal method of dropping off a quick message. The purpose of a website guestbook is to display the kind of visitors the site gets, including the part of the world they reside in, and gain feedback from them. This allows the webmaster to assess and improve their site.
A guestbook is generally a script, which is either remotely-hosted or written in a language such as Perl, PHP or ASP. Many free guestbook hosts and scripts exist.
Often, e-mail addresses, the visitor's site's URLs and IP addresses are collected, and sometimes published. A good example of this is the free flat file PHP guestbook called BBguestbook which features emoticons or smileys and anti-spam scripts. A guestbook is not intended to be a place for discussion. Due to this, a guestbook is different from a chat room (which is more or less realtime communication), or an Internet forum (which is intended to be a location for discussions), or a blog (which is intended for regular updates and more involved exchanges).
Some newer guestbooks include a map that visually displays the visitors' geographic locations. Such guestbooks are sometimes referred to as guestmaps.

3. Rockin' Ron Ernie Says:
I can remember 1960 Radio. It was great listening to KB RADIO in Buffalo N.Y.
Radio was all about personality back then, it was real and the personalities
sold the commercials.
A DJ from KB radio, Dick Biondi was awesome and he kept us going all night.
We would love it when
he would scream into the radio, WAKE UP! WAKE UP! I used to keep the transistor
radio under my pillow
to listen to him. Mom and Dad made us be in bed at a reasonable hour, but
Dick Biondi kept us happy long after
bedtime.
Later in life, I became a DJ for a local small station. I took the radio format
into the club scene in 1968. I believe I was
one of if not the first club DJ. It was not Disco...oh no, it was Oldies Radio.
Yes, I took the actual radio format of the
50's and 60's into the clubs. It was a real radio show presentation. Old commercials,
News Of the Decade and the screaming
DJ personalities. It wa a hit! I kept the show going (in multiple clubs at
once) for 20 years. Finally, it began to fade. I still kept
the format and took private jobs right up until 2008.
I have retired from the party and club scene, but I can be found doing a live
show on the net each and every saturday night.
I love the oldies, the times, the people, and the clean fun recreation of
those days.
I feel bad that our great young folks coming up today missed it!
Ron Ernie
